The Kultura.uz portal writes that on the eve of the 55th anniversary of the creative path of the artist, who stands at the origins of the publishing business in Uzbekistan, Viktor Apukhtin presented his new international project in Kokand - “Illustration as a Theater for One Spectator”.
It is no coincidence that Kokand was chosen as the first city to present the project. After all, one of the iconic works of Viktor Apukhtin is "Mischievous" by Gafur Gulyam. This book was published in 1983 by the Gafur Gulyam Publishing House of Literature and Art with illustrations by Apukhtin. And in 2024, the author of the illustrations for the book also created a unique author's book and donated it to the Gafur Gulyam Literary Museum in Kokand.
Over the years of working with the Gafur Gulyam Publishing House, Viktor Apukhtin has illustrated many works by world and Uzbek writers - classics such as Alisher Navoi, Gafur Gulyam, Alexander Pushkin, Gabriel Marquez and others. There are more than 40 books where Apukhtin acted as an illustrator. And during his entire career since 1970, the artist has illustrated more than a hundred books.
Every year, Viktor Apukhtin represented the Publishing House of Uzbekistan in various International and Republican book exhibitions - fairs, competitions of book and printing products, where books with illustrations by Viktor Apukhtin receive diplomas of 1.2.3. degrees, in certain nominations.
The curators of the project were Elena Peshkova and Jakhongir Temirkhodjaev. They plan to further move the project both in Uzbekistan and in the international arena. This will be represented next year by curator Galina Merzlikina.
