In London, from 8 to 13 November 2024, the Boomer Gallery, which is located in a busy area near the famous Tower Bridge, will exhibit works by the famous Tashkent artist Viktor Apukhtin from the series "Illustrations to Faust" as part of the exhibition "The Dark Side - Season Three". These are lithographs created in 1983.
The organizers of the international art exhibition in their call to the participants of the exhibition asked the question: "Is there a shadow hidden in the heart of creativity and in the souls of the artists themselves?"
Viktor Apukhtin has long thought about this topic and found answers in the world classic - Goethe's "Faust". And his illustrations for this great book are the answers to the question asked.
The main idea of "Faust" is the need for a constant and constant struggle with the dark side of one's soul. According to Goethe, this is the key to the meaning of life, which is a movement from darkness to light. Three lithographs depict Mephistopheles, burghers and Faust - two different attitudes to life.
Mephistopheles commands the burghers to "create peace, wishing evil to everything"...
The burghers hide in beer barrels from storms and adversity and freeze...
Faust rises up to meet the elements.
Goethe asserts:
Only he is worthy of life and freedom,
Who fights for them every day!
Boomer Gallery is one of 4,000 art galleries represented on Artsy, the world's largest community of art collectors.
