In Uzbekistan, in the Central Exhibition Hall of Tashkent on September 11, 2024 at 11 am, the presentation of the Konstantin Korovin Prize took place. Neither the time nor the place are accidental. After all, September 11 this year marks the 85th anniversary of the artist's death in Paris, where he is buried in the famous cemetery of Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois. And the region of Central Asia played an important role in Korovin's life. The artist lived here for about a year and in 1900 at the World Exhibition in Paris, he presented the Central Asian pavilion, receiving a Gold Medal.
The Konstantin Korovin Prize was established by the Konstantin Korovin Foundation for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage "Let's Save Together" in June 2024, thanks to the help of patrons. Russian artists will receive a large cash reward. Special prizes will be established for artists from Central Asia, including publications in top media and free participation in exhibitions. It is important that participation in the Prize will contribute to the popularization and recognition of contemporary artists of Uzbekistan not only in their home country, but also in the world.
It is gratifying that the award products of the Prize will be developed on the basis of a portrait of Korovin painted by a famous artist in Uzbekistan - Viktor Apukhtin, who introduced us to "another Korovin" and emphasized the importance of looking deep into the character, creating an artistic interpretation.
The organizing committee of the Prize includes famous media personalities such as Dmitry Malikov and Sergey Zhigunov. Our respected art critic, Lyudmila Kodzaeva, joined them at the Prize Presentation. Before that, two representatives from Uzbekistan had already joined the organizing committee - art curator Jakhongir Temirkhodjaev and artist Isoev Akhmadkhon, Chairman of the Samarkand branch of the creative union of artists of Uzbekistan.
About a dozen artists came to the Prize presentation. Elena Peshkova, President of the Konstantin Korovin Foundation, spoke about the activities of the Foundation and the organizational aspects of participation in the Prize.
