Victor Apukhtin - about participation in the Konstantin Korovin Prize

Victor Apukhtin gave an interview to his curator and student, President of the Konstantin Korovin Foundation - Elena Peshkova about participation in the Konstantin Korovin Prize

Elena Peshkova, President of the K. Korovin Foundation:

Victor Olegovich, why did you agree to join the jury of the Konstantin Korovin Prize?

Victor Apukhtin:

Firstly, the very fact of being invited to join the jury of such a prestigious Konstantin Korovin Prize should be considered as a fact of recognition of compliance with the level of Konstantin Korovin. I had no moral right to refuse high trust.

Elena Peshkova:

How close are you to Korovin’s paintings?

Victor Apukhtin:

The names of artists who are close to me in spirit and worldview are limited solely by how one or another creator looks at existence. I believe that life is a Miracle. Konstantin Korovin saw the beauty and joy of life in everything! I agree with this view.

Elena Peshkova:

Who is Korovin for you anyway?

Apukhtin Victor:

A very close and kind friend!

Elena Peshkova:

When did you learn this name? How did you become acquainted with Korovin’s work?

Victor Apukhtin:

I recognized the name a long time ago, but I became acquainted with creativity quite recently and was sincerely surprised by the similarity of creative passions...!

Elena Peshkova:

Impressionism is a distant movement from your works, what do you see in common with this direction and your painting?

Victor Apukhtin:

Not that far away! If we accept the formula of Boris Robertovich Vipper that art is not a change of skills, but a change of worldviews, then it turns out that everyone who looks at the world and sees that the world is a wonderful manifestation of the Creator, then these are my like-minded people. And the impressionists said that there is God in every sunbeam!

Elena Peshkova:

What does impressionism mean to you?

Victor Apukhtin:

Beauty and joy of life!

Elena Peshkova:

Last year you were a co-organizer of a plein air dedicated to Konstanin Korovin in Tashkent? What motivated you? What do you remember about the event and what conclusions can you draw about the cultural environment in which the event took place?

Victor Apukhtin:

A wonderful event. I'm sure this will become a tradition.

Elena Peshkova

Do you think there are Korovin’s followers now and how can they be educated?

Victor Apukhtin:

Culture is cultivation, namely the implementation of rules, submission to rules, traditions. In a word, followers who want to look at the world and see the beauty and joy of the world must be educated!

Elena Peshkova:

How do you see the Korovin Prize? Are there any worthy candidates? What will be the selection criteria?

Victor Apukhtin:

The selection criteria are the worldview of Konstantin Korovin. And this award will identify worthy candidates. Good luck everyone!
