Victor Apukhtin presented a portrait of Maria Tenisheva at the House of Russian Abroad

The creative evening "Maria Tenisheva - Muse of Artists. History in Portraits" was held on May 28 at the House of Russian Abroad.

Maria Tenisheva was the center of attraction for people of art: artists, writers, musicians and composers were regular guests in the princess’s house. The muse is the patron and inspirer of art; at different times she was a model for the best artists of the Silver Age: Repin, Korovin, Serov, Vrubel and many others left portraits of Maria Tenisheva for eternity.

Nowadays, the princess continues to inspire: artists paint her portraits, poets - poems and odes.

Victor Apukhtin, a famous artist from Uzbekistan, a descendant of the old noble family of the Apukhtins, painted a number of graphic portraits of the princess under the impression of Maria Tenisheva’s book “Impressions of my life. Memories" from which he learned about the friendship with the princess of his ancestor Alexei Apukhtin, a famous Russian poet and literary critic. “The figure of the princess is incredibly attractive, like birds of paradise the best people of art of the Silver Age flocked to her: for inspiration, strength, charisma, recognition and financing,” says Victor Apukhtin about his work.

“The four portraits are similar to each other: the same pose, but a completely different mood, different energy, if you look closely, they are completely different portraits,” notes Galina Merzlikina in her story about the “History in Portraits” exhibition.

In the center is the figure of Tenisheva, who is surrounded by “birds” - the birds of paradise of Silver Age art: Repin, Roerich, Korovin and Vrubel. Everyone sees and looks for their own.

Everyone is reflected in their own Muse, as in a mirror. The remaining portraits confirm this.
